The Long Leg-less Evolution

If you have a long enough memory, or have recently gone back to compare the older games with the latest remakes you will have noticed the characters used to have long legs!

If you were wondering why the change came about from the long leg to the diddy leg /feet they have now, it was part of an evolution of the general character design that would make them easier to incorporate into more direct character controll games, specifically the adventure games: Jinx's Xmas Adventure, Minx's Easter Adventure and Jinx and Minx's Tower Escape

The long leg walk (as seen above) just wasn't working for me, it looked too clunky for what I wanted to do, I wanted a more dynamic / streamlined movement so I drew reference from other games...

Games like Dizzy (A game series from the 80's about an adventurous egg, who also partially inspired the style of adventure games I've made, hmm maybe i'll do a blog post on those influences in future) aaand for a more modern reference, the look of Kirby - even though I never actually played a Kirby game!

But of course the more keen eye'd of you would have also noticed.. the new eye shape too!

Going from a long oval shape to the new style - which I lovingly referred to as tic-tac eyes, but apparently this shape is commonly called a stadium, along with other funny names like discorectangle, obround, pill shape, or sausage body. ..Just don't call them 'Sausage body eyes' to their face.. they don't like it

This change was made as I felt it gave the characters more personality and make them look a bit warmer / somehow more relatable.
